Reservoir Canyon Loop
Our most challenging regular hike takes us along a ridge overlooking San Luis Obispo. It’s hot in the summer, even though most of the route stays on the north-facing slopes. It’s both the longest regular hike and has the most elevation gain. The loop features rocky switchbacks and creekside woodlands, plus expansive views that are worth the effort. Parking is extremely limited with no overflow; we recommend carpooling to the trailhead.
- San Luis Obispo
- Hike time: 3:30 hours
- 5.5-mile loop
- 1400’ elevation gain
- Dog friendly
- Trekking poles are handy on the slippery eastern descent
