Policy
Who are we?
Weekend Hikers & Beyond is a volunteer-led, intermediate hiking club based in San Luis Obispo County, California. We’re passionate about day hikes for members of varying skill levels on both weekends and weekdays. Our hikes foster friendship and fitness in the great outdoors.
We lead intermediate hikes.
Although our events range in challenge from casual walks to day-long hikes, our average event includes several miles over hills at a walking pace of 2–3 miles per hour. Rule of thumb: If you have difficulty walking uphill and carrying on a conversation, then our average hikes might not suit you.
Members are responsible for their own safety.
Our leaders are volunteers who plan hikes based on knowledge of the terrain and experience on the trail. They are not certified medics, docents, or rangers. This Meetup group, its organizers, and its members, take no responsibility for any injuries or accidents that may occur during events.
Our co-leaders stay with the group.
A hike with co-leaders may designate one to “sweep,” or stay near the back of a group. Their role is to make sure all hikers make the correct turns on a trail, even if the group spreads out. The sweeper’s role is to stay with the group, not accompany someone who chooses to leave the hike.
We will remove members with a pattern of attendance problems.
Hike leaders rely on accurate numbers to plan events and start on time. While we understand that last-minute problems may prevent you from joining occasionally, we reserve the right to question or remove members from the group who repeatedly do not attend.
We require members to obey the law.
Our leaders and members must comply with local, state, and federal laws. These include but are not limited to:
- Littering
- Dogs on leashes
- Respecting private property
- Defacing natural features
- Driving under the influence
We reserve the right to remove from the group any member who breaks the law or repeatedly defies trail etiquette.
We do not tolerate harassment.
Our goal is to enjoy outdoor activities. We commit to making our events free of:
- Unsolicited or inappropriate advances
- Unsolicited promoting or advertising
- Harassment, sexual or otherwise
- Open or hidden verbal abuse including offensive language
- Threats or intimidation
- Physical assault
We reserve the right to remove from the group any member who makes others feel unsafe or commit abuse, physical or otherwise, or unwanted solicitous behavior.
We share photos.
Photos of our events help people understand what to expect during our events. We also use photos that include our members to promote our group on Meetup and social media. By joining an event in public, you agree that we may include you in a group or candid photo. However, if you don’t want us to share a photo that includes you, please tell your hike leader(s).
Your RSVP is your agreement.
By signing up for an event and participating, you acknowledge that you have read this Disclaimer, agree to its terms and to the release set forth in Section 6 of the Meetup Terms of Service (and you specifically agree that such release applies to Weekend Hikers and the Organizer(s) of this event) and you expressly release Weekend Hikers and the Organizers from any responsibility, liability, or claim in law or in equity in connection with this event.
We are not here to solicit anything.
Please do not use our hiking group, in person or online, to promote a business, cause, political platform, etc. We’re here to enjoy our time outdoors.
We reserve the right to update this policy as necessary.
